Clean energy, endless sun.

Caparacena is a 22 MW solar PV plant located in Granada, Spain.

The project reached commercial operation in July 2026 and contributes to Atlantica’s renewable energy footprint in Spain. Caparacena is expected to avoid approximately 16,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

Operation and maintenance is performed in-house.

Protecting biodiversity around Caparacena

At our Caparacena solar plant, environmental care goes hand in hand with energy production. Working closely with local authorities and environmental advisors, our measures focus on:

  • Wildlife Protection: Nesting perches, water troughs, and beehives have been installed across the site. Wildlife-friendly fencing includes fauna crossings, while bird flight diverters help reduce collision risks for local avifauna, including Montagu’s harrier and the lesser kestrel.
  • Habitat & Vegetation Management: White-flowering meadows have been sown across 75% of the fenced area to prevent soil erosion and support pollinators. Native hedgerows have also been planted around the perimeter and along streams to restore habitat connectivity.
  • Community Engagement: Priority is given to hiring locally and subcontracting local businesses, supporting surrounding communities throughout both construction and operation.

Ongoing monitoring during the breeding season and regular ecological surveys help ensure these measures continue to protect the area’s ecosystems over the long term.
