300 MW Capacity
Reliable power, reduced footprint.
The ACT plant is a gas-fired cogeneration facility located inside the Nuevo Pemex Gas Processing Facility near the city of Villahermosa in the State of Tabasco, Mexico. It has a rated capacity of approximately 300 MW and between 550 and 800 metric tons per hour of steam.
ACT reached COD in 2013.
Setting the Standard for Efficient, Low-Emissions Cogeneration in Mexico
Bridging the Gap to Renewables with Reliable Natural Gas
ACT is recognized as an “efficient cogeneration facility” by the Mexican energy regulator. This designation is awarded to plants that consistently operate above a strict efficiency threshold, distinguishing ACT as a leader in high-performance, low-emissions energy generation in Mexico.
Natural gas assets serve as a “transition technology”, supporting grid decarbonization until large-scale storage or renewable capacity is sufficient, Some of their benefits are:
- Lower Carbon Emissions: Modern, high-efficiency natural gas plants emit roughly 50-60% less CO₂ than coal-fired plants per unit of electricity generated.
- Grid Reliability: Gas assets provide rapid, flexible generation to support intermittent renewable sources like wind and solar, ensuring consistent power supply.
- Facilitates Renewables Integration: Fast-ramping natural gas plants help balance variable renewable energy, reducing curtailment and maintaining grid stability.
- Reduces Local Pollutants: Compared to coal and oil, natural gas plants emit less NOx, SO₂, mercury, and particulates, improving air quality.
